Description

The Sony MDR-605LP are quality headphones which provide lightweight, comfortable listening enjoyment. The MDR-605LP stereo headphones have a self-adjusting overhead headband which allows an individualized fit. The circum-aural design better fits a wide range of heads and ultimately provides fatigue-free listening. The cloth earpads are further testament to these headphones’ comfortable fit. The angle-adjusting housing which pivots the earcups allows for even further comfort-setting opportunities.

The open-air design removes undesirable resonance by allowing outside air to pass through the headphones; the result is a better sounding headphone. The over-sized forty millimeter drivers deliver very deep bass by lowering distortion and accommodating a wider dynamic range. The plugs are gold-plated giving the headphones the best possible connection; these plugs also help resist corrosion and support the headphones’ high conductivity and low noise. The Sony Acoustic Turbo circuit is included for high efficiency; it gets high sonic output from your portable stereo, and extends bass response. Put together, these features help counter the tendency of headphones to sound cheap and bass-low. With Sony’s UniMatch plug, it is possible to connect these headphones to both mini or full size headphone jacks.

The MDR-605LP’s cord is single-sided which minimizes tangles. The long, 1.5 meters (4.9 feet) Y-style cord allows for ample movement and separation from the sound source. The high-grade metallic finish is attractive and modern.

I bought the MDR-605LP to use at work in a cubicle environment where I typically listen to vocal a cappella and jazz ensembles. Where most circumaural headphones tend to become too warm over time and eventually press my ears against my glasses, these do not interfere with my glasses and remain cool and comfortable over long listening sessions. What they lack in detail and sound stage they make up in comfort and price. Caution: MDR-605LP's are 'open air' headphones and while suitable for editing recordings (in a quiet space), they are not suitable as recording monitors since sound bleeds through the backs of the cans.
Good headphones. Great sound & comfort & the price is right.
The 40 ohm impedence better matches my Sony MXD-D40 (32) & my Sony MZ N510CK (24).I had to replace my old Sennheiser HD520 II headphones that wore out & were 300 ohm impedence. (It seems to make a difference in volume and sound quality if the impedence matches closer) The cord is one sided and is 1 Meter long. This makes it ideal for home recording & monitoring.
Not the same quality as the Sennheiser's but will work well for my needs.
I found these headphones on clearance at a local grocery store here for $35. Let me just say this, the sound quality is AWESOME. It has both the big end and the little end for different players. (When using the big end, it seems to have a higher quality.) I have wanted the bose or the expensive sony headphones for a long time, but for a third of the price, these cant be beaten. The dont match up to the top of the line $150, but they are better than any standard headphone currently available on the market.
