These lightweight, open-air headphones are comfortable to wear–even for extended periods. The volume control on the headphone cord lets you adjust the music, even if you’re not close to the source components. These can also be used with a Walkman portable. The 30-millimeter diameter drive units are larger than most headphones for noticeably deeper bass, lower distortion, and wider dynamic range, and the frequency response extends down to a low 14 Hz. Ferrite magnets provide for high energy in a modest size and help produce ample sound output at 100 dB sensitivity. PET diaphragms ensure high rigidity for minimum distortion and low mass for high-frequency response all the way out to 20,000 Hz. The Sony Acoustic Turbo circuit is included for high efficiency; it gets high sonic output from your portable stereo, and extends bass response. A single-sided cord minimizes headphone cord tangles and nuisance, and the Sony UniMatch plug with fixed mini-plug makes these headphones perfect for portable use. A phone plug is included for home use.

What the previous reviewer said about low output volume -- not true. I use these on my computer at the office, and they can blast my eardrums out if I turn the volume to the max.
When I connect it with my portal cd player, The sound is so sucks, and i feel the singer is so far away from me (weird?). And the volumn control can only manage a very small range.
I have a $$ Philips, which can provide much much better than this one. And I have a Sony MDR-CD280, which is a little expensive than this one ($$ from fry's), but provide much much better sound. And I have a sennheiser HD 580, nevertheless to say, it is the best among all headphones i have, but it is too expensive (about $$$).
After all, I strongly recommend u do NOT buy this thing.
Well you should, if it's coming from Sony. These headphones have amazing quality. If you can stand the technical talk, it has a frequency response of 14-20K Hz, 100 dB/mW sensitivity, and the basic 24 ohms at 1 kHz. All in all, very nice features. These headphones pick up very interesting sounds, sounds which are not usually heard in other sets, and the best thing is, it does so at very low volume settings. I truly am impressed with the bass these things pull out. And above all the sound is clear. It's still not as crisp and fresh as Koss SportaPros or high-end Sonys. The sound is very deep in fact, the type you want if you listen to hip-hop and dance songs.
One of the most important things to look for in headphones is comfort, and these things deliver in that category. I for one have always detested this design because the headband always slid off my head. But these fit around my head perfectly and slide off only in the most intense situations.
My complain is, these things give out next to no sound. 32-ohms is incredibly weak.
The verdict? Wear these to the office. Most high school/college students will want something that delivers sound whenever in a crowded bus or in the hallways.
A good buy, but it depends on what you want.
