Back to the sound, it is flawless. One disadvantage of these is that I now have to search for better quality versions of the mp3's I have because the imperfections stick out. Although the high quality mp3's I already have really sound awesome. With the 10' coil-less cord, you can watch TV at a comfortable distance too. I was trying to decide between the equally priced HD280 Pro's but I didn't want to have to deal with the coil in the cord. The cord even comes out of the headphone so that you can pack it up more easily. The headphones don't collapse though...but still don't take up that much room.
These headphones aren't the most comfortable headphones though, because they are rather heavy. The cushions make my ears warm and a little sweaty.
********Review, 8 months after purchasing***********
OK so my headphones broke. I use them at the computer and all of a sudden when I went to use them one day the right ear was not making sound. Sennheiser doesn't make this model anymore so I had them send me the HD555's instead. This pair sounds better, especially the bass, but it leaks 50% of the sound because they're open headphones. The cable connecting the right phone to the left is completely concealed by the headband, unlike these EH2270's.
Sound : Extreemly clean, No artificial bass or treble effects.
High Frequency notes: Response : Excellent
Mid Range : Good
Bass: Good (if your player supports high volume levels. I use creative zen micro & IBM thinkpad with winamp). The sound gets better with age (i think EH2270 needs some breakin period). After one year mine sound really tight. Prolonged use doesnt hurt ears like many other headphones. I use atleast 7-8 hrs straight a day.
Design: Excellent rugged design. The wire is connected with gold plated plugs to the ear cups. Plugs are better than solder like in bose Triport. Any sudden pull will pull the plug out which you can insert back in(saves your investment in long term). Over all feel of headphones is very comfortable. My only gripe is the size. A smaller size would be really nice to have. Build quality is pretty good. The best part is the earcups hug the ears so well that you cant hear any outside noise and your music doesnt disturb people around (very important in office use and in flights or long trips). EH2270 is very very rugged.
I personally give a very good rating to sennheiser becuase even after an year I tend to use them a lot more than my bose triports. Bose in their own right are good. In simple terms Bose Triports sound RICH where as sennheiser sound Clean and tight. When it comes to day to day rough use and consistent clean sound Sennheiser takes a clean sweap. Besides they are cheaper too.
Even after an year of use I cant find a single issue with these headphones...
Happy headphones hunting
They produce tight sound across the spectrum, and have great isolation properties. No one else can hear you, and you can't hear other people (for the most part).
The ONLY downside is that these are high-resistance (high ohm) phones, and that translates to the user having to turn up the volume a little higher than you might be used to, in order to power them. Regular CD players come through a little weak, but computers, receivers, and most mp3 players do just fine. I can speak from firsthand experience that my Nomad Jukebox 2 powers them at the highest level at a very reasonable listening volume.
What really convinced me that these were the least set of headphones I would ever buy is how well you forget you are wearing them, coupled with the high sound quality. When I play games on my computer, I have actually jumped at the sound of a gunshot, or turned when a door creaked open.
They are light and extremely well made. Comfortable as anything I could wish for, I have worn them for over 8 hours on a roadtrip and thought nothing of it.
Another great feature is the cord. Thick and long enough, but manageable, it unplugs from the left earpiece easily, so when you catch the cord on something, you only unplug them instead of destroying something.
I can't say enough about how great these are. BUY THEM. You will NOT be disapponted.
For potential buyers:
When looking at the picture of the headphones, remind yourself that these headphones are much lighter than they look. I have used these for over 6 hours at a time with no fatigue whatsoever.
These headphones need to be broken in. At first, they (as most high quality cans) were somewhat harsh in the upper midrange. It took about 12-15 hours of moderate volume usage to obtain the designed fidelity.
I have never heard such flat bass response from a set of cans. To clarify, I must say that these faithfully reproduce extremely low bass without the usual "headphone mid-bass boom."
Overall, these headphones are nothing short of fantastic!!!
No tone control required.
