I got these headphones a couple years ago due to an obnoxious roommate who loved blasting music on his stereo.. still got them and they’re great.

They are listed at around $ 80 on Amazon, but this link is for $ 46 and they are supposedly new.

http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-SONY-MDR-V6-V6-STEREO-MONITOR-PRO-HEADPHONES-/170609351282?pt=Other_MP3_Player_Accessories&hash=item27b91c1a72#ht_4529wt_1139

Of the two you listed, I’d probably go with the Audio-Technica; I’ve had bad experiences with Skullcandy headphones, and the reviews for the ath-m40fs seem to be pretty good in general.

Which headphones should I buy?

Date: 4 Jul 2011 Comments: 1

Question by jan: Which headphones should I buy?
I want to buy one of these headphones: ultrasone HFI-580, shure srh 840 or audio-technica ATH-M50 but I don’t know which one. I like to listen to a wide variety of music. I will mostly use these headphones for my portable device. I’ll also often use them while on the go. I’ve heard that srh840 work well on mobile devices, because it doesn’t need to much power, but I’ve also heard that the hfis were better and that the m50s were more fun to listen to. But that the m50s are to big to use on the go. I care about sound quality, comfort, being able to listen to a wide variety of music genres and they shouldn’t be too heavy.

That’s a tough question. If you ask that on Head-Fi you’ll probably get a mix of opinions. Similar questions have been asked on there before. In those threads though, they were comparing the SRH-840 and/or M50 with the HFI-780 not the 580. Based on that you can probably rule out the 580 (but maybe not, I don’t remember much of what was said on the threads).

A lot of people raved about the M50 and the 840. I remember people saying the M50′s are good for a variety of music. I don’t remember if they said the same about the 840′s. As far as portability, I don’t know about size but the M50′s are actually lighter in weight. Both can be driven without an amp, the 840′s can benefit from an amp, the M50′s not really (if I remember correctly).

I remember this relevant thread and was able to find it — http://www.head-fi.org/forum/thread/512762/review-shure-srh-840-audio-technica-ath-m50-m-audio-studiophile-q40-pioneer-hdj-2000

As you can see, the Q40′s are yet another option to consider.

I guess if I were you’d I’d search around on that forum (ask if necessary) until one decision stuck out to me more than the others. Whichever you pick, you can’t go wrong.

Q&A: Audio-Technica ATH-M50 vs Pioneer HDJ-2000?

Date: 3 Jul 2011 Comments:0

Question by jegheterleo: Audio-Technica ATH-M50 vs Pioneer HDJ-2000?
Helo!
I want to buy som new headphones! The two products that i at the end wanted, is Audio-Technica ATH-M50 and Pioneer HDJ-2000. Which one is the best? Are there any good bass on one of these? If you got any other pair of headset with GOOD bass, and soundquality that you recommend, please let me know:) I still got the Pioneer HDJ-1000, and im very satisfied with these!
Please help me with this! (btw. my budget reaches its maximum at 600 $ )
Cheers! :-)
Sorry! 400 $ … i live in Norway, so its much more expensive here! so… maximum at 400 $ then!

I haven’t had a chance to listen to either of those headphones, but both receive a lot of praise from audiophiles (at head-fi.org).

From what people have described, I would definitely choose the HDJ-2000. Since your budget is more than the cost of the headphones, you’ll have some money left over to buy a headphone amp.

(Had you just asked what are some good bassy or dj-style headphones for your budget, without saying what you’re deciding between, I still would have said hdj-2000.)

Audio Technica Ath-M50 or SkullCandy DJ Pro?

Date: 2 Jul 2011 Comments:0

Question by Frank Franklyn: Audio Technica Ath-M50 or SkullCandy DJ Pro?
I am wondering which would be better. The Audio Technica Ath-M50 or the SkullCandy DJ Pro hedphones. What is the warranty on the Audio Technica Ath-M50, I know the skullcandy dj pros have a lifetime warranty, which is good because skullcandys always break on me, but does the Audio Technica Ath-M50 have a lifetime warranty? And if it does, what if you buy it from amazon or ebay? Would you recommend any other headphones within the same price range, $ 150 or so, that have better sound? I need good, heavy bass, and i would love good mids and highs as well.
Is this too good to be true?

Authorized dealers: http://www.audio-technica.com/cms/site/1e22eec97c088a8b/

I already gave you my recommendations. the XB700 has the most bass, followed by the HFI-580, then ATH-M50. they should all be clear with sound quality appropriate for their price class. skullcandies aren’t headphones… they’re toys

If it’s too good to be true it’s probably a fake. M50′s are one of the more counterfeited headphones in the industry. plus you need to buy from an authorized dealer to take advantage of the warranty
